Man and daughter attacked at Wisteria Island off Key West
A 61-year-old Key West liveaboard and his 21-year-old daughter were reportedly both struck in the head by a suspect(s) wielding bats on Saturday.
There were no arrests as of Monday.
Deputy Michael Watkins went to the 230 block of Margaret Street in Key west at 7:30 p.m. and met with a Key West Police Sergeant who told him the male was already en route to Lower Keys Medical Center on Stock Island with a large lump on the side of his head. The police officer said there was some sort of altercation on or near Wisteria Island.
The 21-year-old female had a large lump on the back of her head. She was still on scene and told Deputy Watkins she and other victim were on a boat anchored northwest of Wisteria Island when they saw a group of about 20 college-aged people drinking on Wisteria Island. They had three center console boats. She stated she and her father approached the group and confronted them about social distancing due to the COVID-19 virus and to keep the noise down.
The victim said the suspect(s), it was unclear how many, then struck her and her father in the head with a bat.
A witness did not see the battery, but saw three center console boats leave the area and saw the two victims on the beach of Wisteria Island. He then went over to assist them.
The two victims were treated and released at Lower Keys Medical Center.

WTF is wrong with people? Glad father and daughter are okay. Punks better think about who they are attacking though cause some people bring guns to the baseball bat fight. I know there would be an uproar but isn’t it about time to shut down liquor stores and alcohol sales. Not essential and stress due to time out of work and being confined increases domestic violence along with drunk moron violence like this.
There would be a lot less violent crime if people could just stay out of other people’s business! If someone is breaking a law, call the police! Otherwise, you have no business telling people what to do at any time unless you are signing their paychecks! And social distancing was a recommendation not a law, and these people had no business going near those people. People do not like being told what to do regardless of legalities, and if they are breaking the law, you may end up like these nosy people did. Also, JACK DIARY, look what happened when they shut down alcohol sales in the past, organized crime and violence skyrocketed to the point they had to appeal prohibition and let the people drink…
