Lower Keys Woman Pronounced Dead After Crash

A 51 year old Lower Keys woman was pronounced dead this afternoon following a head on collision in the 500 block of Caroline Street.

She was driving a 2006 Jeep Wrangler outbound when it suddenly veered into the oncoming lane. Key West resident Robert Spottswood was driving a newer model Cadillac Escalade when he said he saw the Jeep coming at him in his lane and stopped the car. Nonetheless, the Jeep ran head-on into his car.

The woman was transported to Lower Keys Medical Center where she was pronounced dead just after 1 p.m. Her identity is being withheld until next of kin has been notified.

Key West Police are still on the scene investigating the crash. The block of Caroline Street between Duval and Simonton remains closed to traffic.
