Long Term Care Facility Investigation Ongoing
The monitoring of long-term care facilities continues to be of high priority to the Florida Department of Health in Monroe County. Last week, a long-term care facility in Monroe County reported the death of an 87-year-old female and 101-year-old female. These individuals were tested for COVID-19. Results were returned and in both cases, were negative for the virus.
Out of an abundance of caution, the department and Region 7 Incident Response Team performed COVID-19 tests in all residents and staff of the long-term care facility on Saturday, May 2 – totaling almost 150 tests. Two staff members who were not present that day were tested on Monday, May 4; those results have come back negative. The remaining majority of tests are still pending in a commercial lab for those who were tested on Saturday and should be available in the next few days.
The department and incident response team continue to take appropriate short and long term actions to assure the safety and health of the residents and staff. Further information will become available as it is developed.
