Local Couple Helps With Rent During Difficult Times
As the local economy sits idle due to the corona virus pandemic, a local couple has stepped up to prove, once again, that Key West is One Human Family.
Scott and Sonja Miller, in an attempt to reach some of the people that could be hardest hit, have paid the May rent for each of the 52 residents in the City’s mooring field.
The Millers reached out to the Mayor Teri Johnston at the end of March, seeking a way to help the people living in the mooring field by paying back rents. At that time, rents were up to date. So the Millers decided to pay it forward, and paid everyone’s May rent.
“If we can encourage others by our actions,” Scott Miller said Friday, “then it’s the best thing we can do.”
This generosity is another great action by members of the community during this crisis. Across the island, and throughout the Keys, people have mobilized in a myriad of ways. Restaurants are serving free hot meals, non-profits are distributing groceries, churches are delivering meals to people in their homes.

.Scott and Sonja Miller are deserving of commendations and appreciation for showing the compassion and kindness that should have been shown by the City Mooring Field management.
