There’s no question about whether Congress should initiate an impeachment process at some point, the only question is how to go about it, and when. In his investigation report, the most important thing Robert Meuller said (and Attorney General Barr didn’t) was that Mueller wasn’t allowed to indict a sitting president so, he concluded, it was up to Congress to do its Constitutional duty based on all the facts and evidence he and they produce.

Impeachment is serious business and it should be handled carefully, professionally and in a bipartisan way. Before impeachment, the focus should be on insuring that the American people see, hear and understand the charges, the facts and all the evidence. Un-redacted reports, bipartisan hearings, counter intelligence and financial evidence, and live testimony from Robert Meuller, John McGahn, Dan Coats, Jim Comey and others will allow the public to judge for themselves and possibly, as it did with Nixon and Watergate, create a majority that demands accountability for the unacceptable acts committed by the current President.

It’s clear what would happen if House Democrats don’t initiate impeachment proceedings and fail to vigorously pursue their oath of office to preserve, protect and abide by the Constitution. The current, and every president who follows, would be above the law and free to lie, obstruct justice and fire any investigator with impunity.

That’s why history demands a day of reckoning in the not too distant future.
