LETTER TO EDITOR / WHEN DOES THE WAR END?

You ask when this horrific Putin war, and the killing, end.

Put yourself in Ukraine’s position. When a powerful dictator neighbor attacks your home without provocation and murders your family, the solution is neither diplomatic negotiations nor compromising by giving up parts of your sacred land.

Ukraine and its leaders have the right to use courage and bravery as their strongest weapon.  They are paying a painful price to save their sovereign borders, to protect other countries that are potential targets for Putin, to defend international law and all democratic nations.  For example, women and children were deliberately murdered and the Russians committed massive crimes against humanity.  Are those wounds healed by giving up what they died to defend? How could the US and allies not force the attackers to pay for all their destruction – plus penalties that would prevent any future dictator from attempting similar violence in the future?

The fact is: Putin started this war, and only Putin can stop it by leaving Ukraine.  This 21st century European War will end only when Ukraine, the US, European Union, and all democracies unequivocally win the war and impose the terms.
