During an awards ceremony Thursday at the Grand Key Resort, Key West Police Chief Donie Lee announced the Department’s choice of Officer of the Year and Civilian Employee of the Year 2017. The honors went to Officer Joe Stockton and Executive Assistant Tedra Poitier.

Officer Joseph Stockton was born and raised in Key West and came to the Key West Police Department in August of 2009. For much of his career, he has served as a motorcycle officer and a traffic homicide investigator. He currently supervises the department’s Motor Unit.

“Officer Stockton is dependable and reliable,” said Chief Lee. “He consistently and enthusiastically serves this community with dedication and professionalism. He sets an outstanding example in his volunteer efforts with the Police Athletic League. Officer Stockton always steps up to the plate. He is meticulous and thorough, completing investigations quickly and efficiently.”

Stockton is one of the officers who remained in Key West throughout Hurricane Irma, serving tirelessly to ensure the community remained safe throughout the disaster.

“Officer Stockton’s integrity reflects the highest standards of the Key West Police Department,” said Lee.  “He is an asset to our department and our community.”

Chief Lee’s Executive Assistant Tedra Poitier was named Civilian Employee of the Year, 2017.

Poitier has been with the Department since July, 2016. Throughout her time, she has performed her duties both proficiently and professionally.

“Tedra comes to work every day with a can-do attitude, always exceeding expectations,” said Lee. “She is a team oriented member of the department who is personable and professional to coworkers and the public alike.”

During her short time with the department she has volunteered and served on the Police Athletic League Board, she has greatly assisted the KWPD Love Fund, she serves as a mentor with Keys to be the Change, and she volunteers for many other department events.

“Her positive energy and spirit have a great positive impact on the morale and within the department.” said Lee.
