KWFD Recognizes Autism Awareness Month
The Key West Fire Department is wearing blue all month to recognize Nation Autism Awareness Month. The blue shirts bear a large KWFD emblem on the back made up of the colorful puzzle pieces that have come to represent autism awareness.
It’s vital for first responders to be well versed in working with autistic individuals in order to provide the highest level of care.
“Probable everyone in this city has a loved one or knows someone whose loved one has this condition,” said Fire Chief Alan Averette. “It’s important that we, as fire and rescue workers, know the best way to read a situation and provide the best response.”
