A most loved show is finally approaching at Key West High School (KWHS). The Conchettes are putting on their annual Conchette Capers production on May 4 at 7 p.m. in the KWHS auditorium.

The group of 43 Conchettes started preparations for Capers back in December, working on dances to the theme “The Conchettes’ Fantastic Voyage Through R&B.” Conchette director, Stacey Saunders states that “it takes about five to six months to prepare.” A lot of hard work and time is put into making this show the best possible.

Also, many of the Conchettes are involved in multiple dances, keeping their schedule packed. Freshman Conchette Natasha Galo is one of these dedicated dancers. “This year I am going to be doing the sibling dance, mother/daughter, father/daughter, and boy/girl dance, including my other [group] dance,” she explains.

Emily Russell, friend, teammate, and fellow freshman to Galo, has been working towards this show for most of her life. “I’ve been really excited to be in Conchette Capers ever since I began as a Conchette. It’s an amazing show, and I know all of the Conchettes will be very happy to finally dance in the show,” says Russell.

All the new Conchettes are excited for their first Capers season. “I think Conchette Capers is a great program and is very fun. It takes a lot of hard work and dedication, but it is all worth it in the end to perform and just have fun,” says Freshman Lainey Cabanas.

Despite this excitement, the practices are very rigorous and numerous, so Russell notes that the girls will be happy when their hard work pays off.

All in all, freshman Alexandra Johnston sums it up by adding, “Conchette Capers has been very fun, and it’s an amazing bonding experience.”

Buy your tickets from any Conchette for $10 or at the door for $15 on May 4 at the KWHS auditorium. For more information, contact Stacy Saunders at [email protected].
