KICK-OFF PARTY AND CONCH SHELL BLOWING CONTEST
Schooner Wharf Bar – Official Headquarters Conch Republic Independence Celebration
 
Our Schooner Wharf Kick Off  Party and Conch Shell Blowing Contest is the start of the Conch Republic Independence Celebration on Friday, April 21st at 7 p.m.
Conch Republic Prime Minister, Dennis Wardlow will give us his firsthand account, of our succession as the Conch Republic on April 23rd, 1982. We filed an injunction against the government’s action in the Federal Court of Miami — We lost.  As mayor of Key West at the time, we succeeded from the United States, Surrendered, and Demanded Economic Aid from the United States — We are still waiting for the aid!
Adding to the festivities are the Caribbean dance rhythms of The Cayo Ritmo Band. They play an eclectic mix of reggae, calypso, soca, cha-cha, as well rock, R&B and funk.  Expect high-energy dance sets and improvisational inter-play between the steel pan and guitar and Latin percussion jam sessions.
There is not entry fee for the Conch Shell Blowing Contest – anyone can enter.  They can bring their own conch shell or we will provide one. 1st – 2nd – 3rd Prizes for the longest, loudest and most musical blow.  Prizes are Water adventures, bottles of rum, Schooner Wharf Bar tabs, tees and caps, Conch Republic flags, etc.
Sign Up for Contest starts at 8:00 p.m. (and Contest takes place around 8:45 p.m.)
