Keys History & Discovery Center Presents…Foods That Define Florida
Islamorada – Keys History & Discovery Center Presents…Ten Foods That Define Florida, a lecture on Wednesday, March 13, 5-7 p.m. The lecture is at the Keys History & Discovery Center at MM 82 on the property of the Islander Resort in Islamorada. Cost for non-members is only $10, thanks in part to grant funding from Florida Humanities Council. Reservations are strongly encouraged.
Join Historian and Professor Gary Mormino as he explores Florida’s food history and answers burning questions. What are the most iconic foods that define the Sunshine State? Key lime or sweet potato pie? Was the Cuban sandwich invented in Tampa but perfected in Miami? How does one explain the rise of the grouper sandwich? What has happened to our once vaunted oyster industry? Did Georgia, the Carolinas or Texas simply export its barbecue into Florida or does the Sunshine State have its own BBQ heritage?
Light appetizers and a cash bar will be available. Reservations are strongly recommended and can be made at 305-922-2237 or[email protected].
