Islamorada – Keys History & Discovery Center Presents…True Pirate Tales of the Florida Keys, a lecture on Wednesday, Dec. 11 with Curator/Historian Brad Bertelli. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., lecture begins at 6 p.m. The lecture is at the Keys History & Discovery Center and Islander Resort Conference Center, MM 82.
There seems to be a treasure chest of pirate legend and lore in the Florida Keys. How much of it actually happened? Did the legendary Black Caesar really call the Northern Keys home? Were more than a dozen pirates hanged from the infamous hanging tree at Key West’s Captain Tony’s Saloon?
Join Discovery Center’s Bertelli as he wades through the fact and fiction of piracy in the Keys. Sit back and listen as Bertelli recounts a series of first-hand accounts of true pirate tales of the Florida Keys that will help to illuminate the true nature of piracy on and around the island chain.
