Keys Audubon Spring Migration Bird Walks

The Florida Keys Audubon Society will be hosting a series of bird walks in the coming weeks timed to coincide with spring migration. Included in the series will be an afternoon event entitled “Bird Walk For People Who Are Not Morning People.”

Every year birds move themselves across the planet, racing to get to their breeding grounds in time to stake out some territory and meet a suitable mate. The Florida Keys is one of the prime stop off points for birds returning from the Caribbean and South America and offers unparalleled opportunities to see them.

The first Migration Bird Walk will be held on Saturday, April 23 and will begin at 8 a.m. and will be led by Dr. Mark Whiteside and Mark Hedden.

The second walk, the “Bird Walk For People Who Are Not Morning People,” will be held Saturday, April 30, and will begin at 5 p.m. and will be led by Mark Hedden.

On Wednesday, May 4, Keys Audubon will team up with Andy Wraithmell of the Great Florida Birding Trail for a walk beginning at 8 a.m.

All three walks will begin in the parking lot of Indigenous Park at 1801 White Street and will last approximately two hours. All three walks are also free and open to anyone interested.

Participants are advised to bring a hat, binoculars, and a bottle of water.
