Key West Writers Guild Kristina Neihouse was honored when she received the Silver medal in the Florida Book Award’s Young Adult

Kristina Neihouse of Key West, a Member and the Secretary of the Key West Writers Guild, was honored on April 11, 2019 in Tallahassee when she received the Silver medal in the Florida Book Award’s Young Adult category for her work, Knowing When to Leave, published in 2018 by SeaStory Press.

Kristina describes herself as a full-time librarian and a part-time book store clerk, writer, reader, crazy cat lady and triathlete. In 2016 she won an Ann McKee Artist Fund grant which helped her complete Knowing When to Leave, a work of speculative fiction set in the near future, when hurricanes are year-round phenomena and a new virus presents mysterious but plausible changes.

Adults of all ages will find Knowing intriguing and engaging. Her book is available for purchase locally at Key West Island Bookstore and Books & Books, and online at Amazon.com. Find out more about Kristina at kanwrites.com

Submissions for the 2018 Florida Book awards were read by juries of three members, who were nominated by co-sponsoring organizations from across the state. Jurors are authorized to select up to three medalists (one gold winner, one silver runner-up and one bronze medalist) in each of the 11 categories. Jurors are also authorized to make no selections in a given year.

The Florida State University Libraries coordinate the Awards with assistance from co-sponsors, including the State Library and Archives of Florida, the Florida Humanities Council and the Florida Library Association.
