Key West VFW Post 3911 supports CFK scholarship for veterans, service members, dependents
KEY WEST, FL, August 12, 2021— The Southernmost Post of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) donated $1,000 to The College of the Florida Keys Foundation on August 10 to support the VFW Post 3911 Ed Moran Memorial Scholarship. Established in 2015, this scholarship pays tribute to the late VFW Post Commander. The $1,000 award provides financial assistance to veterans, service members, and their dependents so that they may complete their educational goals without incurring excessive student loan debt. This year’s recipients are students Carmen Rushing and Joshua Heimel.
Moran, who passed in 2012, was a Marine Corp veteran and served two tours in Vietnam. After a career as a helicopter mechanic and chief engineer in oil fields in Texas and Louisiana, Moran moved to Key West to enjoy fishing and writing. Through the VFW, he and his wife Lucy devoted countless hours to helping veterans and their families in this community.
