During today’s City Commission meeting, the Mayor and Commissioners recognized the hard work of the Key West Sunrise Rotary for their outstanding volunteer work in repainting the compass rose at the end of the Edward B. Knight Pier.

Originally created by the Rotary in 1998, the spectacular painting is a favorite among locals. The concrete pier took a serious beating in 2017 with Hurricane Irma, and the City of Key West had to refinish the broad end of the pier. Once that was done, Sunrise Rotary again painted the compass rose, which features the words Rotary International. More recently, Hurricane Ian damaged the paint, and a tenacious group of Rotary volunteers repainted it.

Sunrise Rotary Past President accepted the plaque from Vice Mayor Sam Kaufman. He assured the community that the club would continue to maintain popular painting.
