Key West Ranks 2nd for Biking
May 24, 2016: The City of Key West has been recognized as second in the nation for bike-ability when compared to other medium sized cities. The recognition was awarded by SaveOnEnergy.com.
“In Key West, everything you need is within a few miles,” says SaveOnEnergy. “Both residents and tourists in Monroe County can benefit from the convenient bike rentals. In the summer when it’s too hot to walk, biking is the perfect solution!”
According to SaveOnEnergy’s Communications Director Mitch James, SaveOnEnergy.com compiled data from the American Community Survey and Census Bureau to find out where people are walking, carpooling, biking and using public transportation to get to work. The City of Key West was ranked second for biking in medium sized cities in the US.
“It might seem easy to drive your car every day,” said James, “but everyone’s morning commute has an effect on the environment.”
The City of Key West is constantly striving to sustain improve our environment through educational outreach like the Preserve Island Life Campaign and Bike/Walk Key West. In March the City pitted the community’s largest employers against each other, challenging them to prove who had more conscientious employees through the Green Commute Challenge. The best part of a challenge like this is that everyone was a winner!
