Key West Officers Commended for Bravery in Arrest of Repeat Offender
Key West Police Chief Sean Brandenburg, during a recent awards ceremony hosted by the Grand Key Resort, recognized four members of the Alpha Day Watch with a Chief’s Commendation.
On April 25th, Officers Matt Johnson, William Howell, Thomas Clark, and Victor Arguello responded to Fort Village Housing where a man was actively trying to break into to a home occupied by a woman and her small child.
Officers were able to take the man into custody. The resident had no idea who the male was and had not seen him until that morning when she was walking her child to the bus stop. When he began yelling, she ran home and barricaded herself and her child inside.
This individual has posed a similar risk in the past and had been arrested before for similar incidents.
“The officers displayed distinguished bravery in the arrest of a person who posed a major threat to the welfare of the community,” said Chief Brandenburg.
