Key West man is heading back to Florida State Prison

A Key West man is heading back to Florida State Prison for the fifth time after pleading out in six criminal cases.

Monroe County Circuit Court Judge Mark Jones sentenced Delmon Washington, 41, on May 9 after Washington pleaded no contest to all the charges he was facing – four counts of sale of cocaine, three counts of unlawful use of a two-way electronic device, and one count each of possession of a synthetic cannabinoid and criminal mischief. Following prison, he will be on drug-offender probation for three years. Assistant State Attorney Christine Poist represented the state.

Washington’s prison history dates back to 1997 and he was most recently released in 2016. Convictions included possession of cocaine, sale of cocaine, resisting an officer with violence, sale of marijuana, burglary with assault, and simple battery. His most recent cases that resulted in the five years:

On March 30, 2017, Key West police set up a controlled drug buy using a confidential informant around Amelia Street and Windsor Lane. While under surveillance, Washington sold the informant $100 worth of crack cocaine.

On March 31, 2017, Key West police, along with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Investigations, set up a controlled drug buy using a confidential informant on Flagler Avenue. While under surveillance, Washington sold the informant $100 worth of cocaine.

On April 11, 2017, Key West police set up a controlled narcotics buy using a confidential informant on Emma Street. While under surveillance, Washington sold the informant $40 worth of cocaine.

The same day, Key West police set up another controlled purchase using a confidential informant near Truman Avenue and Windsor Lane. While under surveillance, Washington sold the informant $100 worth of crack cocaine.

The other two cases are for possessing “spice,” a synthetic drug, while being booked into jail on other charges; and for breaking a bed off the wall while incarcerated.
