Key West Family Donates Police K9

Key West Police Chief Sean Brandenburg is pleased to announce the addition of K9 Jigsaw to the Department.

Jigsaw, who has just completed training and certification, is a generous donation from Key West residents Tom and Becca Ahrensfeld.

Jigsaw is working with K9 Officer Tommy Anglin, replacing K9 Ben, who recently retired.

As avid animal lovers, when the Ahrensfeld family learned of the Department’s need for a K9 officer, they were honored to have the opportunity to secure the acquisition and training of the new dog.

They were especially pleased to meet the new K9 and his partner and handler, Officer Anglin, minutes before they began their first shift together last Friday night.

Jigsaw is a two year old imported German shepherd. His name is a reminder of the Department’s commitment to the Autism Society of the Keys. His name matches the wraps on the School Resource Officers’ cars and is a reminder of special autism awareness challenge coins and shoulder patches. The coins and patches can be purchased to support the Autism Society of the Keys.

The Ahrensfelds, Key West residents and owners of four dogs themselves, say they couldn’t think of a better way to give back to the city they call their southern home.

When they are not in Key West they live on their farm in Cape Cod with their children, horses, goats, donkeys, chickens and ducks. They host an active 4H program and firmly believe and take pride in teaching others the joy and value that animals can bring to human lives. To be able to give the Key West Police Department such a talented, beautiful and sweet animal to help them in their law enforcement efforts means the world to them, they said in a note to Chief Brandenburg.
