KEY WEST COMES ALIVE IN LUCY BURDETTE’S NINTH MYSTERY

Lucy Burdette aka Roberta Isleib doesn’t have to look far to find characters and plot ideas for her Key West mystery series—she borrows real people and places and weaves them into her stories. In her ninth Key West mystery, A DEADLY FEAST, to be published May 7 by Crooked Lane Books, local chef Martha Hubbard and owner of Key West food tours, Analise Smith, play large roles, along with reader favorite Key West police officer Steve Torrence. Burdette layers real Key West conflicts onto the framework of a fictional murder mystery. She says her newest characters are pleased to have starring roles, though a little anxious about the fictional murders. “I made a decision long ago not to poison anyone in a real restaurant,” Burdette has assured them.

Hayley Snow, the amateur sleuth in the Key West series, works as a food critic for the fictional e-zine, Key Zest. The restaurants and foodie events in town serve as inspiration for her articles and reviews. In A Deadly Feast, the actual restaurants on Smith’s seafood tasting tour make appearances on the pages.

“Key West is full of the best characters,” says Burdette. “The longer I’m on the island, the more layers I see in this complicated town. I love living here and it’s a joy to share that love of Key West with readers.”

Both local bookstores will carry A DEADLY FEAST, along with Lucy’s other Key West mysteries

About A DEADLY FEAST by Lucy Burdette:

Before Key Zest food critic Hayley Snow’s family descends on the island for Thanksgiving and her wedding to heartthrob Detective Nathan Bransford, she has one last assignment–a review of a seafood tasting tour conducted by her friend Analise Smith. But when one of the tourists collapses on the last stop, Analise begs her to investigate before the police destroy her business and shut down the local Key West eateries on her tour. Pressure mounts when Analise calls a second time to request that Hayley meet with Chef Martha Hubbard, who prepared key lime pies for the tasting tour and is terrified that someone poisoned her pies to ruin her reputation. Chefs all around town are preparing their versions of a Thanksgiving feast, but with a murderer on the loose, will Hayley and her friends have anything left to be thankful for?

There’s a lot to love about this series—deft plotting, likable characters, and an ending that always satisfies. But one of the things I love the best is how the author transports her readers to Key West with every page, describing real landmarks and restaurants with such realism that I feel I’m actually there. Magical and delicious fun!”—Suspense Magazine
