Key West Chamber of Commerce and FKCC offer free college readiness event
Getting into college is one thing; paying for it is another.
The Key West Chamber of Commerce and Florida Keys Community College want to help local families accomplish both with a free college readiness workshop.
The two organizations will jointly present Ready, Set, College! from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, November 1st in the main building of Florida Keys Community College, 5901 College Road.
The free event is open to high school students, parents, teachers and guidance counselors who want to help young people achieve – and afford – their dreams of a college education.
The two-hour workshop includes a one-hour session on “Writing for College” and a one-hour session on “Paying for College.” In the first hour, college English professors will offer advice on writing effective and error-free college admission essays, letters of recommendation and thank-you letters.
In the second hour, financial aid experts will offer hands-on help completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) using the college’s computers. The experts also will provide essential information about scholarships, grants and loans.
