Key West Art & Historical Society’s “Littles at the Lighthouse” Program Relaunching this Month
October 12, 2022 – (KEY WEST, FL). To support area families with young children in exploring the wealth of learning opportunities provided by the Key West Art & Historical Society, the organization is relaunching its popular “Littles at the Lighthouse” program led by Education Specialist Kassandra Collett and educator Kathleen Hennessy. Registration is now open for the free program held on the grounds of the Key West Lighthouse and Keeper’s Quarters Museum, 938 Whitehead Street, on Tuesday mornings from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. beginning on October 25.
Parents with children aged five years old and younger are invited to join the Society’s educators for story time on the lighthouse lawn. Each session will have an exciting new theme that will pair with the Society’s weekly Parent & Me program at Fort East Martello Museum. Following the session, families are encouraged to climb the lighthouse tower and explore the exhibits displayed in the historic Keeper’s Quarters.
“The ‘Littles at the Lighthouse’ program has been explicitly designed to introduce the next generation of museumgoers to the wonderful world of museums,” said Society Education Specialist, Kassandra Collett. “While rolling around on grassy lawns, playing with parachutes, bubbles and musical instruments, young families are exposed to the history and culture of their island home.”
Littles at the Lighthouse is free and open to the public. While registration is not required, the Society requests parents do so. All supplies will be provided by the Key West Art & Historical Society. For dates and additional information contact Kassandra Collett at 305-295-6616 ext. 114 or [email protected]. Sponsored in part by the Department of State, Division of Arts and Culture, the Florida Council on Arts and Culture and the State of Florida, with additional support provided by The Helmerich Trust and Lee Garrison. Your museums. Your community. It takes an island.
