Key Largo Chamber of Commerce, FKCC, and Centennial Bank to hold “Ready, Set, COLLEGE!” for high school students
KEY WEST, FL, January 3, 2018— The Key Largo Chamber of Commerce, Florida Keys Community College, and Centennial Bank are joining forces to help local high school students, their families, and guidance counselors navigate the daunting sea of college decisions and deadlines. The free workshop, entitled “Ready, Set, COLLEGE!,” will be held on Tuesday, January 16, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., at the Murray Nelson Government Center, located at 102050 Overseas Highway in Key Largo.
The first part of the workshop will be dedicated to learning about different ways to pay for college through federal grants and loans, scholarships, and payment plans. FKCC financial aid staff will provide hands-on guidance through completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), which is the first step required for federal and many other financial aid opportunities.
The second half of the workshop will focus on writing. FKCC English professor Craig Titus will provide students tips for writing effective essays for both college admissions and scholarship applications. The session will also help parents and guidance counselors learn how to better evaluate student essays and suggest improvements.
