Dec. 7th – AN INTIMATE EVENING WITH RICKIE LEE JONES

Two-time Grammy winner Rickie Lee Jones exploded onto the pop scene in 1978 and has made a career of fearlessly experimenting with her sound and persona over 15 critically acclaimed albums. A cultural phenomenon, Rolling Stone magazine put her on its cover twice in two years, and Saturday Night Live gave her an unprecedented three songs for her second appearance. Rickie is both a character in the songs and the songwriter singing, defying convention with her sometimes brazen sexuality and the mixed bag of jazz, rock and what has come to be known as ‘confessional’ songwriter performances. Doors open 7 p.m., show starts 8 p.m. at Key West Theater, 512 Eaton St.

Dec. 8th – JJ GREY – 8pm/Doors 7pm

Over the course of six albums and a decade of touring, JJ Grey’s grimy blend of front porch soul and down-home storytelling has taken him around the world and back again. Beating the streets on nearly every continent, he and his band Mofro have sewn a continuous thread of laying-it-on-the-line shows that move folks to dance and at times to tears.

Jan. 8th – THE ZOMBIES – 8pm Show/7pm Doors

Now in their 54th year and cited as being one of the most influential UK pop/rock bands of all time, a mid-’60s rock group who wrote gorgeous melodies. Dominated by Colin Blunstone’s breathy vocals, choral backup harmonies, and Rod Argent’s shining jazz- and classical-influenced organ and piano, the band sounded utterly unique for their era. To this day, they’re known primarily for their three big hit singles, “She’s Not There”, “Tell Her No”, and “Time of the Season”, however they have released multiple albums in recent years, both in the studio and live. Show starts 8 p.m.

Jan 20 –  Latin Jazz with Caribe of Key West and the Southernmost Brass

Two great bands combine to produce a unique sound to go along with the cool Latin rhythm.  Caribe of Key West and the Southernmost Brass will join together and perform classic Latin Jazz with all their horns, flutes, congas, and timbales.  They will cover some favorites of the Buenavista Social Club, Compay Segundo, Celia Cruz, Gloria Estevan, Mark Anthony, Willie Chirino, and many others. We will explore the Mambo and Cha Cha sounds of Cuba along with Salsa, Merengue, and Caribbean rhythms. Dancing will be encouraged.

Who hasn’t heard the beautiful Youngblood’s rendition of Get Together penned by Dino Valenti? It has been featured in endless films, TV and on heavy radio rotation since it first was recorded in 1967. For 50 years Jesse Colin Young has been singing songs about peace, relationships and the environment. From his folk days in Boston and his first record, Soul Of a City Boy, he has articulated and recorded the tumultuous times of the 60s, 70’s, 80’s to the present, while reminding us that it is all about family, community and the precious natural world we live in. His musical style is now considered Americana, but in fact it’s his unique fusion of jazz, blues, folk and rock with an emphasis on his extraordinary voice that makes his signature sound.

The members of Jefferson Starship past and present have been exploring the mysteries of music for more than 1000 collective years. Give or take. But who’s counting? Kantner knew that combining powerful creative forces, personalities and talents could create something far greater than the sum of its parts. Between 1974 and 1984, Jefferson Starship released eight gold and platinum selling albums, twenty hit singles, sold out concerts worldwide and lived out legendary rock and roll escapades.Today’s Jefferson Starship remains dedicated to breathing new life into the living catalog of the Jefferson legacy, going to the edge, pushing the sonic boundaries and staying true to the original spirit of the music, on and off stage.

Mar 2nd, 2018 – GEORGE WINSTON – 8pm Show/7pm Doors

George Winston grew up mainly in Montana, and also spent his later formative years in Mississippi and Florida. During this time, his favorite music was instrumental rock and instrumental R&B, including Floyd Cramer, the Ventures, Booker T & The MG’s, Jimmy Smith, and many more. Inspired by R&B, jazz, Blues and rock (especially the Doors), George began playing organ in 1967. In 1971 he switched to the acoustic piano after hearing recordings from the 1920s and the 1930s by the legendary stride pianists Thomas “Fats” Waller and the late Teddy Wilson. In addition to working on stride piano, he also at this time came up with this own style of melodic instrumental music on solo piano, called folk piano. In 1972, he recorded his first solo piano album, BALLADS AND BLUES 1972, for the late guitarist John Fahey’s Takoma label.

Mar 10th, 2018 – MARC BROUSSARD – 8pm Show/7pm Doors

The son of Boogie Kings guitarist (and Louisiana Hall of Fame member) Ted Broussard, singer/songwriter Marc Broussard was seemingly destined for a life as a music man. His upbringing in Lafayette, Louisiana, instilled in him an affinity for R&B alongside the Cajun trappings of southern Louisiana. Drawing vocal and stylistic influence from Otis Redding and Brian McKnight while bearing the preternaturally gruff vocals of John Hiatt and Dr. John, Broussard was barely 20 at the time of his first album’s release.  He has opened for and shared stages with everyone from Maroon 5 and the Dave Matthews Band to Willie Nelson, O.A.R., and Bonnie Raitt. In March of 2011, two songs — “Lucky” and “Only Everything” — were issued for digital download as a precursor to his self-titled, Jamie Kenney-produced album that appeared in July that also signaled his return to Vanguard.

Apr 5th – KELLER WILLIAMS – 8pm Show/7pm Doors

Since he first appeared on the scene in the early ’90s, Keller Williams has defined the term independent artist. And his 16 recordings tell only half the story. Keller built his reputation initially on his engaging live performances, no two of which are ever alike. Williams’ solo live shows—and his ability to improvise to his determinedly quirky tunes despite the absence of an actual band—quickly became the stuff of legend, and his audience grew exponentially when word spread about this exciting, unpredictable performer.
