Joe Garcia Wins Florida Keys Town Hall Forum Against Primary Opponent, Highlighting Ties and Record of Service to the Community

Key Largo, FL- Today, during a candidates forum in the Florida Keys, former Congressman Joe Garcia delivered a winning performance against his democratic primary opponent. During the forum, Garcia shined as the local favorite for his record of delivering for the people of South Florida and the Florida Keys.

“I went to Congress with the promise that I would give all of the communities I represented a voice, and I am proud of everything we accomplished working alongside the people of the Florida Keys,” said Joe Garcia, candidate for Florida’s 26th Congressional District. “I’m proud of our work to make the lives of homeowners, veterans, students and all Florida Keys residents better.”

Garcia was the first Congressman to live in the Florida Keys in 100 years, and his presence in the community was felt.

In Congress, Garcia successful passed a fix to flood insurance hikes, saving Keys homeowners thousands. He helped secure an additional doctor for the Key West VA Clinic so lower Keys veterans could get the help they need, and passed a bill to allow veterans to use private healthcare facilities when they couldn’t get to VA care. He helped secure an additional $2 million for the Florida Keys Water Quality Improvement Project and passed legislation that helped the local fishing economy.

Joe Garcia served South Florida in Congress from 2013 to 2015.  He is currently running for election against Republican Rep. Carlos Curbelo in a Congressional District that has been redrawn and favors Democrats.  Joe Garcia holds a 25 point lead in the polls and a significant fundraising edge, in the most recent quarter, over his primary opponent.
