Joe Garcia Stands up for Student Loans and Miami Dade College
Joe Garcia issued a statement in response to Annette Taddeo’s false claims on student loan rates and Miami Dade College:
“Lowering student loan rates is one of the most important things we can do. One of our great accomplishments in Congress was passing a bill that cut student loan rates by almost half for undergraduate students so they could keep more of their money as they entered the workforce. I am also proud to have successfully cut graduate and PLUS loans rates. I understood that many students rely on those loans to attend schools like Florida International University and Miami Dade College.
I am disappointed and disagree with Ms. Taddeo calling Miami Dade College a scam. I, like many others, am a proud graduate of MDC and happen to believe it is an outstanding educational institution that provides our community with a quality education. Many students rely on this institution, like I did, while they work their way through their education.”

Joe Garcia served South Florida in Congress from 2013 to 2015. He is currently running for election against Republican Rep. Carlos Curbelo in a Congressional District that has been redrawn and favors Democrats. Joe Garcia holds a double digit lead in the polls and a significant fundraising edge, in the most recent quarter, over his primary opponent.

State and federal loans may seem like a solution, but they encourage the inflated tuition we see at educational institutions in both the non-profit and for-profit sectors. The federal government would help Americans save more money and reduce the cost to taxpayers by passing higher education reform to make college tuition- and debt-free. We know we can afford it at the federal and state levels. We only lack the will to enact it.
