Joe Garcia Speaks at Upper Keys AARP Forum, Congressman Curbelo Absent

Miami, FL- Former Democratic Congressman Joe Garcia attended the AARP Candidates Forum at the Key Largo Civic Club and discussed the issues facing seniors in South Florida. Garcia’s Republican opponent, Congressman Carlos Curbelo was notably absent from the event, possibly to avoid questions about his belief that Social Security and Medicare are Ponzi schemes.

“It’s a shame Mr. Curbelo doesn’t think South Florida seniors deserve to know his positions on the issues that affect them,” said Joe Garcia, candidate for Florida’s 26th Congressional District. “I’m proud to speak to AARP members about my work protecting Social Security and Medicare benefits and, unlike Curbelo and Donald Trump, I don’t think either program is a Ponzi scheme.”

Joe Garcia has been a strong advocate of Social Security and Medicare in Congress and wants to make sure the promises we’ve made to working men and women are kept. In comparison, Carlos Curbelo has taken a page from Trump and called Social Security a Ponzi scheme. Curbelo has gone even further than Trump by calling Medicare a Ponzi Scheme as well.

Carlos Curbelo in a Congressional District that has been redrawn and favors Democrats. National and local Democrats have invested heavily in Garcia, with the DCCC placing over $5 million in television and radio ads that are currently running in the district.  Joe Garcia is beating Curbelo in the most recent poll.
