Joe Garcia Responds to His Primary Opponent’s Absences from Candidate Forums

Miami, FL- Today, former Congressman Joe Garcia issued a statement on his primary opponent’s continued absence from candidate forums.

“One of the things I’m proudest of from my time in Congress is the fact we listened to every member of our community, and served as their voice in Washington,” said Joe Garcia, candidate for Florida’s 26th Congressional District. “A community as diverse as South Florida deserves leaders who are willing to have those conversations and who will fight for all the issues that matter to our families.”

“By skipping these forums, Joe Garcia’s primary election opponent has shown she isn’t particularly interested in talking about issues with residents. Be it immigration, gun violence or income inequality, Joe has a record of listening to and helping everyone in the district and will continue to do so in Congress,” said Javier Hernandez, spokesperson for the Garcia Campaign.

Annette Taddeo backed out of a forum held by immigration groups to discuss comprehensive immigration reform and the Garcia campaign was informed today that Taddeo is skipping a forum held by the Miami Times, scheduled for tonight. Joe Garcia served South Florida in Congress from 2013 to 2015.  He is currently running for election against Republican Rep. Carlos Curbelo in a Congressional District that has been redrawn and favors Democrats.
