Joe Garcia Receives Major Union Endorsements on Labor Day

Miami, FL—Today, former Congressman Joe Garcia received the Labor Day endorsements of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) and the United Food & Commercial Workers International Union (UFCW). These endorsements reflect Garcia’s strong record of fighting for the working men and women of South Florida.

“It’s an honor to have the support of Florida’s hardworking men and women,” said former Congressman Joe Garcia, Candidate for Florida’s 26th Congressional District. “On Labor Day we honor the working people of this country, including the unions who have fought to elevate labor rights for all American workers. Our economy was built on the middle class and I’ll continue working with our labor groups to ensure it doesn’t get left behind. We need equal pay for equal work, a $15 minimum wage and protection of the labor rights that have helped so many families move forward.”

“Joe is a champion for labor issues,” said Josh Zivalich, Secretary-Treasurer of Teamsters Local Union No. 769. “Congress needs leaders like Joe who understand the importance of protecting working families. As a congressman, Joe recognized labor’s contributions to our country and we look forward to having him as a voice for workers and the middle class in Congress once again.”

Garcia has a long record of fighting for working families. This year, he tried living off $17 a day during a minimum wage challenge meant to bring attention to the hardships faced by many Floridians. In Congress, Garcia co-sponsored minimum wage legislation and continues to advocate for a $15 minimum wage today. Garcia also marched alongside South Florida airport workers in order to call for an end to unfair labor practices by an airport contractor.
