Islamorada firefighter arrested for battery
A 33-year-old Islamorada Fire Rescue firefigther was arrested early Sunday morning after hitting a man in the face with a glass mason jar during a fight.
Lester Robert Young of Key Largo was charged with aggravated battery.
Deputies Christopher Kilmurray and Orlando Alvarez were on patrol near Morada Bay Beach Café, 81600 Overseas Highway, about 1 a.m. when a person approached them to report a fight. They found a man on the ground. They recognized the man on the ground as the same man who had been escorted out earlier for causing a disturbance. There was blood coming out of his mouth, cheeks, eyes and forehead. The injured man was eventually flown to Ryder Truama Center in Miami.
Several security guards were ordering Young to get on the ground when Deputy Kilmurray placed him in handcuffs.
Witnesses told Deputy Kilmurray they saw Young hit the man in the face with a mason jar as well as with his fists.
Young told Deputy Kilmurray he hit the man after the man groped/and or made unwanted advances on his wife.
Young was taken to the Monroe County Detention Center.
