Islamic Relief USA Denounces Decision to Rescind Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) Program
Alexandria, Virginia – Islamic Relief USA strongly denounces the decision announced Tuesday morning by Attorney General Jeff Sessions to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, commonly known as DACA. The program helped protect from deportation some 800,000 undocumented immigrants who were brought to, and effectively lived much of their lives in, the United States.
Islamic Relief USA believes the Justice Department’s decision to effectively end DACA puts the lives of many individuals who have been productive contributors to our society in jeopardy. The mission of our organization has always been to help people regardless of race, creed or nationality. Islamic Relief USA has long worked with people with an immigration heritage, assisting them through our programs that focus on housing, vocational education, food security, domestic violence prevention, free or affordable health care services, and financial literacy. These programs have helped these individuals gain a valuable foothold in the United States where they become well skilled and make positive differences in America’s economy, jobs, education system, and overall social fabric. We believe this decision makes the United States appear to be less committed to striving for excellence and depleting our society of individuals of plenty potential and promise.
