Inmate charged with spitting on another inmate

A 30-year-old Key West jail inmate already charged with battery now faces another such charge after spitting on another inmate during a dispute over access to the phone early Tuesday morning.

Michael Wesley Maynard was on the phone ahead of the other inmate, 38-year-old Joshua David Shilling, when Shilling asked Maynard when he would be done as it appeared Maynard was talking over the allotted amount of time.

Schilling stated Maynard cursed at him and then spit in his face.

Maynard told Deputy Ty Torres he did not remember what occurred, because he had “emotionally blacked out.”

Bureau of Corrections Detention Deputy Elias Emmanuel confirmed Schilling’s story.

Maynard remains in jail under no bail. He was arrested by Key West Police in June on charges of assault and battery.

Schilling remaisn in jail on $15,000 bail stemming from a May arrest by the Sheriff’s Office in which he was charged with battery on a person 65-years-old or older.
