Inmate charged with battery

A 33-year-old Key West inmate is facing an additional criminal charge after he attacked his cellmate Thursday.

Christopher James Callen was charged with aggravated battery.

Detention Deputies responded to the cell Thursday night after Callen grabbed his 57-year-old cellmate by the shirt and punched him several times.

The victim was taken to Lower Keys Medical Center where he was treated for two missing teeth and a broken rib.

Callen stated that the victim passes gas too often and doesn’t give any courtesy flushes when using the toilet.

The victim stated he didn’t know why Callen attacked him.

Callen and the victim remain in jail in separate cells.

Callen was initially booked into jail previously for an out-of-county warrant.

The victim is in jail facing aggravated battery and indecent exposure charges.
