Illegal spearfishermen cited
Three men spearfishing illegally were given mandatory notice to appear in court citations in two separate incidents in the last two days in the Upper Keys.
- William Ralph Martin, 22, of Port Charlotte, Florida, and Nicolai Paul Karpenko, 22, of Englewood, Florida, were both cited for spearfishing for mangrove snapper near the Snake Creek Bridge at approximately 4:11 p.m. Saturday.
- Andy Collazo, 27, of Cape Coral, Florida, was cited for spearfishing for barracuda near the Whale Harbor Bridge at approximately 11 a.m. Sunday.
Spearfishing is prohibited in Florida Keys state waters from Long Key north to the Miami-Dade County line out to three nautical miles including islands on the Atlantic side and out to nine nautical miles from the nearest point of land including islands on the Gulf side.
