Idle Hands Summer Youth Employment Program students are making their mark
A Positive Step of Monroe County “Idle Hands Summer Youth Employment Program” participants, Ruth Azard, left, and Daisy Fernandez-Virgen, right, offer free bike lights and bells from a “Car-free Key West” table set up at N. Roosevelt Blvd. and Palm Ave recently. Both 17 year-olds interned with City of Key West Engineering Dept. Multimodal Transportation Coordinator Ryan Stachurski and are now beginning their senior year at Key West High School.
A Positive Step of Monroe County, founded by Billy Davis in 1999 to serve some of Monroe County’s highest risk kids and their families, partners with the City of Key West each year to provide stimulating summer employment for motivated Key West High School students. Those interested in supporting and learning more about the program can visit www.apsmc.org/take-action.
