Huge Donation of Time and Materials Move Construction Forward
The volunteer effort to rebuild a home that was lost to fire over two years just got a huge boost, and the house is nearing completion.
Key West Home Depot and Marathon Home Depot combined to generously donate all the materials needed to sheet rock the new Galveston Lane home of Miss Alelia Butler.
In January of 2019, the Fire Department responded to a fire at 813 Galveston Lane just before 4 a.m. to find a mobile home fully engulfed in flames. The homeowner, Miss Butler, barely got out alive, but she lost everything.
The community responded immediately. Thanks to an amazing group of people, led by Key West Fire Department Capt. Jason Barroso and the generous donations of many, construction is nearing completion on her new home.
“We made a major step towards completing Ms. Butler new home,” said Capt. Barroso. “Leo the driver for Home Depot went above and beyond in helping deliver the sheet rock and materials. We had 10 off-duty Key West Fire Department Firefighters who volunteered on the day off to unload and bring all the sheetrock down Galveston Lane.”
In addition, Professional Plastering Designs, Inc. (PPD) volunteered with Gerry Jimenez owner, work crews, and PPD family members installing all the sheetrock on Saturday.
Arnolds Towing, Shayne Arnold, Melinda, and Vic volunteered their services by sending a flatbed truck to transport additional materials needed to complete the sheetrock installation.
Capt. Barroso thanked Greg Sullivan and crews with Waste Management for picking up all the debris after the sheetrock was installed.
“On behalf of Ms. Butler and myself I would like to thank all the team members involved that donated their time, treasure, and talent into making Ms. Butler new home come true,” he said. “This has been an incredible outpouring of support and I would like to acknowledge the effort that was put forth by each one of these amazing volunteers!”
