Homeless Persons’ Memorial Day
(KW) Homeless Persons’ Memorial Day will be commemorated on December 16th, 2016 at 3:00pm in the Historic Key West Cemetery.
The annual event is organized by the Florida Keys Outreach Coalition (FKOC) and Monroe County Social Services. The service will include the internment into the FKOC vault of the cremains of homeless men, women, and children who have died in Monroe County during 2016.
78 individuals died homeless and/or indigent in Monroe County during 2015 and were remembered during last year’s service.
The United States Navy Honor Guard will pay a special tribute to veterans who died homeless in the Keys and across the nation.
Key West and Monroe County were among a record 152 communities in 40 States and the District of Columbia that held memorials last year to honor those lost lives. The public is welcome to attend the memorial. Enter through the main gate by the sexton’s house and ushers will direct you to the FKOC vault. For information call 305-295-7741.
