Holiday Parade on Saturday, December 7th

It may sound strange, but candy safety is an important consideration at the upcoming Holiday Parade. The parade begins at 7 p.m. Saturday, and as is the annual tradition, many of the entrants will be tossing candy to the kids that line the parade route.

Key West Police Chief Sean Brandenburg wants to remind parents to keep their children out of the streets and let the candy come to them. Anxious little ones tend to move into the parade route looking for goodies, so parents need to be watchful.

In addition, Chief Brandenburg reminds all of the people riding on floats to toss the candy to the sidewalks and try to keep it out of the streets to avoid a possible tragedy.

The parade starts at the corner of Truman and White streets. It will flow down Truman to Duval, ending at Caroline Street. The judge’s stand will be located at the corner of Duval and Fleming streets.

This year’s parade will be loads of fun with more than 74 entrants that include the Boys and Girls Club, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, the SPCA, Florida Keys Aqueduct Authority, Keys Energy, and several City departments, including the last float: The Key West Police Department escorting Santa himself! The Key West High School Marching Band is one of the favorites each year.

Clear Channel’s Nancy D’Amato will MC the event and the lineup will be staged by the seasoned pros Joe Mather and Lenny Whitley.
