Historic Tours of America joins “Papio’s Pals” with support of artist in schools program and April 4 Papio Kinetic Sculpture and Art Bike Parade
In the company of Stanley Papio metal sculptures, ‘Doughboy,’ second from left, and ‘Water Skiier’ far right, Historic Tours of America CEO Chris Belland, left, and HTA Director of Key West Operations Clinton Curry, right, present Key West Art & Historical Society Education Specialist Kassandra Collett with a check for $2,500.00 to support the Society’s 2020 ‘Papio’s Pals’ artists in schools program. Each year, local artists work with school groups to create kinetic sculpture floats for the annual Papio Kinetic Sculpture and Art Bike Parade, held in honor of the late rebel metal-artist who explored the value of recycled materials long before it was hip to be rusty. Currently, with funds provided by HTA, Margaritaville Key West Resort & Marina, and the Law Offices of Samuel J. Kaufman, P.A., three local artists, Suzanne Brown, Crystal Smith, and Kevin Lisinski, are working with student groups at eight schools to prepare for the parade which will kick off from the Custom House Museum on Saturday, April 4. Businesses interested in becoming a Papio’s Pal by sponsoring individual artists, artist teams or school groups can contact KWAHS Development Director John Giuliano at 305-295-6616 ext.111.
