Guidance/Care Center Celebrates 50 Years of Serving the Florida Keys!
(Monroe County, Fla.) — May is National Mental Health Awareness month with the goal to increase knowledge about mental health, reduce stigma surrounding mental health and celebrate recovery. On Sunday May 14th begins Guidance/Care Center Week as proclaimed throughout the Florida Keys. Established as a Florida not-for-profit, the Guidance/Care Center began providing resources and services in Monroe County in 1973. For the past 50 years, the Guidance/Care Center (G/CC) has provided Comprehensive, Integrated Community Behavioral Health Services (Mental Health, Substance Abuse and Primary Care) to people of all ages. G/CC provides a full continuum of care including mental health, substance use disorder and integrated co-occurring behavioral health services. There are over 120 employees who work in 26 different programs at 4 sites throughout the county. G/CC has a “no wrong door” approach to the access of care and serves individuals and families with behavioral health conditions regardless of ability to pay. These community-based services include Mobile Crisis Response, Disaster Crisis Counseling, Crisis Stabilization, Detox, Psychiatric Care, Prevention, Intervention, Outpatient therapy, Intensive Outpatient, Psychosocial Rehabilitation at our Personal Growth Center Clubhouse, The Heron Assisted Living, Substance Use Treatment, Case Management, Care Coordination, Middle Keys Transportation, and Aftercare services. We pride ourselves in “Helping people cope. Helping people change.” In true community-based care, G/CC services are provided not only at our offices, but also, in schools, in the jails, in homes and via telehealth.
