Graduating Explorers Honored

The Key West Police Department honored two of our Key West High School Explorers who are graduating seniors. School Resource Officer Janeth Del Cid commended their dedication and said she hopes to see them return as officers after college.

Police Explorer Captain Madilyn Flores and Police Explorer Sergeant Denilson Moreau are graduating from Key West High School.

“I am saddened to see them graduate,” said School Resource Officer and commander of the Explorer program Janeth Del Cid said, “but happy to see them start their life journey as young adults and fine members of this community.”

Police Explorer Captain Madilyn Flores served as a Police Explorer for four years and participated in multiple clubs, to include the KWHS swim team. Flores is graduating with Honors and top of her class. She will be attending the University of Central Florida, seeking her B.A in Forensic Science with a focus on Biochemistry. Her aspirations are to finish college and then come back to Key West and become a police officer.

Police Explorer Sergeant Denilson Moreau served as a Police Explorer for four years. He is originally from Haiti. Moreau will be attending the College of the Florida Keys, seeking his B. A. in Criminal Justice. His aspirations are to become a police officer.

Both Flores and Moreau dedicated over 400 hours a year, volunteering for community service and school events to help raise funds for the Police Athletic League to support the program. They participated in the Florida Association of Police Explorers State Competition and put Key West Police Explorers Post name on the map with high scores.

“As their post advisor, school resource officer, mentor, instructor, guide and sometimes parent,” said Del Cid, “I got to witness their growth for four years of their life. I am grateful to have the opportunity to be an influence in their lives, especially during the most important part of their development into adulthood.”

Due to the current COVID-19 crisis, the department was unable to offer a formal ceremony to received recognition for their dedication and hard work.
