Giving Back with Bikes

Make this Holiday Season Special for Key West Youths

This holiday season is going to be very special to some students. Key West High School social studies teacher Robert Hill is doing a bicycle drive for this Christmas and Hanukkah, similar to last year, and any youths who are in need of a bike this year can contact him to help make their holiday special. In addition, anyone who would like to donate to this cause would be more than welcome to join in the spirit of the giving season.

Hill, with the help of his friends Dave Strobele of Island Mystique and Ryan Smith of Island Bikes, is continuing the tradition of giving back with a bike drive that they first initiated last December.

Hill explains that the bicycles will being going to “deserving kids.” Hill, Strobele, and Smith are all encouraging Key West residents to pitch in for this worthy cause. “If you know of a deserving student who is in need of a bicycle this holiday season, please send me their name, sex, and parent’s phone number,” Hill says, or, “If you have or know someone who has a gently used bicycle which they would like to donate, please contact me.”

The purpose of the holiday bike drive is simply to give back to those in need, the true meaning of the holiday season, and to put a smile on a child’s face with a new bike for them to ride. Hill encourages community members to “feel free to help out a student in need of a bike, and contribute to the happiness of teenagers in Key West.”

If you are interested in contacting Robert Hill to donate a bicycle or know of a youth who could use a bicycle, contact him before December 25 at [email protected], [email protected], or by calling (716)-400-4876.
