Fringe Theater Key West presents Tony Konrath’s A Christmas Carol
A CHIRSTMAS CAROL HAUNTS THE FRINGE
Fringe Theater Key West brings the holiday spirit to life with Tony Konrath’s adaptation of A Christmas Carol. This beloved tale of Christmas ghosts, redemption, and hope runs for five performances only, December 10-14, at 7 p.m. in the Key West Armory, located at 600 White Street.
This adaptation was penned by Tony Konrath, a cherished figure in Key West’s theater community, who passed away in February 2024. He was an accomplished actor, director, and playwright who made extensive contributions to our local theaters, including his work with the Waterfront Playhouse, Red Barn Theatre, Tennessee Williams Theatre, Summer Stage, and Fringe Theater.
“We’d been discussing producing Tony’s wonderful adaptation for some time,” shares the show’s director and Fringe’s Managing Artistic Director Rebecca Tomlinson. “Tony believed this version was a perfect fit for Fringe because of its intimacy and creativity—and he was absolutely right!”
Konrath’s A Christmas Carol features Ray West, Liz Cloud, and Mariah Woessner as the Narrators, who weave together the timeless story of Ebenezer Scrooge, Jacob Marley, the Cratchits, and the Ghosts of Christmas. True to Dickens’ original story, this adaptation also introduces some of the lesser-known characters from the novel.
“It’s the language of Dickens—his rich, storytelling prose—that takes center stage,” explains the director. “The script relies on the actors’ ability to seamlessly shift between characters, making the story come alive in an innovative way.”
This production celebrates the enduring magic of A Christmas Carol while honoring the creative vision of Tony Konrath, whose love for storytelling continues to inspire Key West’s theater community.
Fringe Theater’s A Christmas Carol will run from December 10 to 14 at the Key West Armory. To purchase tickets, visit KeysTix.com or call the KeysTix Box Office at 305-295-7676. Don’t miss this heartwarming celebration of the holiday season!
