FOUNDER’S PARK (ISLAMORADA) IS DESIGNATED AS A MULTIGENERATIONAL PARK

MONROE COUNTY, FL – Founder’s Park was recently designated as a Multigenerational Park by the Florida Department of Health in Monroe County at the August 9 Islamorada Village Council meeting. Village officials and Parks and Recreation staff have continuously made improvements to the park throughout the years, committing to a park that effectively serves all community members – regardless of age or ability.

Multigenerational parks offer opportunities for all park users to increase physical activity with multiple activities of varying intensities. The department has introduced this program to recognize parks that serve all ages and to increase awareness about the availability of parks to community members. The goal is to ensure that these parks can meet the needs of any age group so everyone can enjoy the spaces together.

Founder’s Park is the first in the Middle and Upper Keys to be designated as a Multigenerational Park. So far, Nelson English Park, Truman Waterfront Park, and Clarence S. Higgs Memorial Beach Park have received the designation from the department. Founder’s Park includes structures and equipment that allow park guests to engage in the four key elements of fitness: aerobic activity, strength training, balance, and flexibility. The park offers outdoor exercise equipment, walking trails, pool access, fitness classes, and much more.

Director Maria Bagiotti says, “As the Director of Founders Park, I am honored that the park was designated as a Multigenerational Park. We thrive to offer programs and facilities that benefit all ages and abilities.”

Founders park offers Aerobic Fit, Yoga, Zumba, Aqua-Fit, tennis, Masters, Age Group and Special Olympics Swim Teams. “We have wonderful facilities to enjoy for recreation, exercise and social interaction. To name a few, the Fitness Park, Aquatic Complex, Beach, Tennis Complex, walking trails, and athletic fields. We even have a dog park for our pets and owners to get exercise and have social interaction. We welcome everyone to come out and enjoy the park,” Bagiotti continues.
The park is open to residents of the Village of Islamorada for free, and non-resident day passes are $8. Special rates for seniors, youth, and membership packages are available.
