Fort East Martello unveils newly renovated Parade Grounds with ribbon-cutting and free concert featuring G. Love w/ Chuck Treece

On Thursday, November 4 at 5:00pm, Key West Art & Historical Society celebrates the completion of Fort East Martello’s newly elevated and landscaped Parade Grounds at 3501 S. Roosevelt Blvd., Key West, with a free concert event starring acclaimed hip-hop blues singer and guitarist Garrett Dutton, known to most as G. Love, founder and front-man of the band G. Love and Special Sauce. Skate rock musician Chuck Treece will join Dutton on stage, with the two playing from his 27-year genre-bending catalogue of music, including his 2019 Grammy Nominated album, “The Juice,” which Dutton defines as “a rallying cry for empathy and unity.”

Produced in collaboration with COAST Projects, the public evening celebration will be preceded by a private ribbon cutting ceremony being held to mark the end of Monroe County’s Phase II drainage and water mitigation project supporting the preservation of the Civil War era fort, a project sponsored by a more than half-million-dollar grant from the Monroe County Tourist Development Council.

Parade Ground gates open 5:00pm, with an opening performance by local favorite Cayman Smith-Martin at 6:00pm. Admission is free with Monroe County ID; $20 for non-locals. All concertgoers, whether free or paid, must preregister by November 3rd at www.coastisclearfest.com. Registration closes at noon November 3rd. Low-back chairs and blankets are welcome. Covid-19 safety protocols will be observed, including a cap on preregistrations and ticket sales. Rain or shine. Limited parking is available; bicycling encouraged.
