Christine Cordone Smith, a beloved teacher, performer, and artist, taught children for
over 30 years. She taught art for 7 years in the New York public school system in the
Woodstock, NY area before relocating in Key West with her husband, musician Larry
Smith. She began her career in the Monroe County School System as a first grade
teacher at Poinciana School.
She transferred to Gerald Adams School where she taught kindergarten for the next 22
years. Smith celebrated the honor of being awarded “Teacher of the Year” in 2000. In
her final year at Gerald Adams, she took on a new hat as the music teacher where she
taught kindergarten through the fifth grade. Also during her final year, in addition to her
music teaching responsibilities, Smith wrote, applied, and acquired two major grants to
purchase new instruments for the children.
Smith earned the prestigious National Board of Professional teaching Standards
Verification in 2002, which qualified her to mentor new teachers in Monroe County.
More recently Smith was awarded “Teacher of the Quarter” in October 2018.
Renaissance woman Christine Cordone Smith is excited to resurrect her career of
singing, entertaining, writing and performing music. And she is happy to continue her
passion of Plein Air watercolor painting where her work is currently displayed at
Art@830 Gallery, 830 Caroline Street in Key West.
Smith is enthusiastic to include in her to-do list of retirement life plans: extensive
traveling and spending more time with family and friends.
