FLORIDA REPRESENTATIVE HOLLY RASCHEIN TO SPEAK TO SCHOOL BOARD ABOUT 2018 LEGISLATIVE SESSION
WHO: School Board Members, Executive Leadership Team, the Public, GEMs, Representative Holly Raschein
WHAT: School Board Members plan to hear from Rep. Holly Raschein during the workshop about the 2018 Florida Legislative Session as it relates to Monroe County Schools. Legislators made a decision recently during the session to increase school security spending by $400 million. This increase was applied to the overall student allocated funding for districts across the state.
Superintendent Mark Porter said the funding increase, while appreciated, will be inadequate to fully fund School Resource Officers at the elementary schools in the district and the additional mandates of the legislation. “The addition of SRO’s at our elementary schools has been a request from district parents and with this slight increase in funding we will have to work closely with other stakeholder groups to be able to provide assistance on these campuses. We will have to get creative with how we will allocate this funding, as issues of training and student mental wellness are also priorities for our district in relation to safety and security for all students and staff.”
Board members will also hear a report about the 2017-2018 school year Digital Classroom Plan and a review of the 2016-2017 fiscal year Operational Audit.
The following items are up for approval: two deduct change order amendments for Biltmore Construction for the Plantation Key School project; construction audit change order with RSM US LLP; dual enrollment agreement between the Monroe County School District and Florida International University; criminal background and employment history checks policies 1121.01, 3121.01, and 4121.01; evaluation of administrative personnel policy 1220; and contracts: instructional personnel policy 3128.
