Florida Keys SPCA Joins NBC and Telemundo
to Host Fourth Annual ‘Clear the Shelters’ Pet Adoption Drive, Aug. 18
Key West, Florida Keys — Both the Key West and Marathon campuses of the Florida Keys SPCA are to waive pet adoption fees during the fourth annual Clear the Shelters™ pet adoption drive Saturday, August 18, in an effort to help local families adopt a new pet. Standard adoption procedures and policies are still applicable.
FKSPCA’s goal is to adopt every animal in each of its two shelter locations. Currently the Key West campus houses 183 animals, including cats, dogs, birds, rabbits and hamsters. They expect to be moved into a newly built, more spacious facility on College Road by October.
Of 57 animals at Marathon’s campus, most are cats of all ages, colors and personalities. However, seven dogs, two rabbits and two gerbils are also looking for a forever home.
“We look forward to clearing the shelters on August 18th,” said Tammy Fox, Executive Director of the Florida Keys SPCA. “The event comes at a time with the FKSPCA is at capacity during the hurricane season which presents a host of challenges. We have hundreds of animals waiting to be your next best friend. Thank you for opening your hearts and homes to the animals at the FKSPCA!”
In 2017, the two locations successfully adopted over 30 animals during the national event.
