Fleeing motorist arrested
A 24-year-old Palmetto Bay, Florida woman was arrested Monday after fleeing from Deputies on Duck Key.
Stephanie Marie Bloodworth was charged with fleeing and eluding, DUI, resisting arrest and reckless driving.
Multiple Deputies responded to Duck Key at approximately 6:30 p.m. after a caller reported a gray Tesla nearly hit a tree and pedestrians. Deputy Connor O’Neill spotted the Tesla parked on North Bahama Drive. The driver matched the caller’s description.
The driver, later identified as Bloodworth, put the car in drive and speed away at a high rate of speed as Deputy O’Neill approached. Deputy O’Neill turned on his lights and siren and followed the Tesla. Bloodworth continued driving at a high rate of speed while running stop signs.
The Tesla eventually stopped at a stop sign and Deputy O’Neill ordered Bloodworth out of the car. Deputy O’Neill noted Bloodworth was stumbling and appeared confused as he approached. Bloodworth then got back into her car and was able to push Deputy O’Neill away before speeding away again.
Bloodworth again sped through Duck Key streets before stopping a short time later. Bloodworth got out of the car. She began resisting and pulling away as Deputy O’Neill attempted to handcuff her. Bloodworth began kicking at multiple Deputies as they attempted to detain her.
An alcoholic beverage was found in the car. Breathalyzer results showed Bloodworth had a blood alcohol level of .251. The legal limit in Florida is .08.
Bloodworth was taken to jail.
